The
miraculously designed human body is a mysterious
combination of the flesh, spirit, mind and emotions. The
power to heal is also built into the system by the
creator. Modern medicine and other healthy habits enable
the healing power of the body to
heal when stricken with disease. When this
internal power is gone, life stops. So the question in
the healing process is: How to enable the healing power
of the body to continue to work in sickness?
1
Faith
and healing. Modern medicine now recognizes relevance of
faith in the healing process. The first step is to
believe that everything is possible with God. An
awareness of God’s presence is a powerful component in
acceptance of the self, the circumstances, the nature of
illness, and to experience an inner calm. The God-given
healing power built into the system enables the healing
to occur when medical
interventions are used. The underlying belief to this
approach is that God is the healer. Jesus’ ministry is
an example of this reality, as all kinds of illness
vanished through faith application. Divine healing
involves a right relationship with God our maker,
our sustainer and our hope.
2.
Trust
in a living God gives the person hope, and therefore a
strong will to live. The person develops a positive
attitude which affirms life in spite of the severity of
pain. Believe that God’s love is always the same whether
the person is ill or in good health. His love always
sustains us in all situations in life. This power of
healing is available wherever it is experienced–
hospital, nursing home, church, community,
family and friends. Healing and recovery is
quicker for those who experience a loving relationship.
Psychologists and family therapists tell us that talking
about the problems with good friends eases the pain and
brings about emotional healing. In Proverbs 11:14 we
read In an abundance of counselors, there is safety.
In other words, listen to others who care for you.
The inner healing of the mind and emotions is basic to
the on-going healing of an ailing
body. Interacting with pets also has a calming
effect. Love and faith help us to look beyond the
present problems, and visualize
a healthy and positive outlook. The passion of love
brings positive emotions of “elation” and hope. The body
is created to do physical work which strengthens the
muscles and burn more calories to give energy to the
body. Therefore engaging in moderate physical exercise
is very important.
3.
Think
“wholeness” instead of separate units like body, mind
and spirit. This concept helps us to be partners in the
healing process. Healing requires our active
partnership. We all wish that we have a miraculous
healing so that we don’t have to go through the routine
of maintaining our health. The design of the body is
such that we experience
healing throughout our lives. Every time it happens, it
is a miracle. Therefore let us take courage and feel
good about ourselves that we can be active partners in
managing our health. All that we need to do is to
combine and put to work all the ingredients – faith in a
loving God, prayer, meditation, healthy eating habits,
moderate exercise, and
medical interventions when needed, and a positive,
uplifting attitude towards life. The responsibility to
take charge of life and health is given to each one of
us. No one else can take care of it for any one else.
This is a God-given responsibility to each one of us
whether we like it or not. And therefore the body must
not be abused with drugs, alcohol and other medications
that override the normal and creative functions of the
body. Those who are victims of drug abuse or
relationship abuse need to work through their anger and
hatred in order to move on and feel the healing touch in
their bodies and souls. Healing involves the whole
person.
4.
The
miracle of human life is that every one of us has a
second chance, and some times a few more. A person
cannot experience “wholeness” as long as that person
continues to stay put in the past. A complete acceptance
of the past helps to receive forgiveness to the self and
those who caused the pain. Every person is different.
Thank God we are all different and special. You are you,
and don’t you ever feel sorry for yourself. Thank God
for your life. The people who move forward in their
lives are those who know the God-given power of
“acceptance and forgiveness.” They are divine qualities
and we need to apply them in order to receive
“wholeness” and quality of life.
5.
We
need to understand healing comes in many different ways.
There is no one single and miraculous way to be healed.
We also need to remember that there is nothing sinful in
being sick. But it is sinful if we decide to stay sick
without becoming active partners in the healing process.
I have seen many people giving excuses for not doing
something towards their own healing. They put the blame
on lack of money, or on families, friends, or whoever
they can blame. The formula that works is this: I
must be an active partner in taking care
of my own health. We
need to exercise all the options that are available to
us in order to experience healing. Sometimes miraculous
healing happens, more than we expect. Thank God. Other
times, much may not happen. And yet, always remember
that one or more of the following
brings healing:
a. Remission of illness.
b. Honest acceptance of the illness.
c. Restoration of relationships.
d. Getting rid of anger and hatred.
e A life of thankfulness.
f. Living with positive outlook.
g. Helping others in their trouble and
in their
needs.
h. An appreciation of life.
i. Ability
to draw strength from family
relationships.
j. Peaceful death.

Wisdom we
can use
I am the Lord, the one who
heals you. Exodus
15:26
Do not be wise in your own
eyes, fear the Lord and shun evil. This will bring
health to your body and nourishment to your bones –
Proverbs 3:7-8
Be careful how you think;
your life is shaped by your thoughts. –
Proverbs 4:23
So then, confess your
sins to one another and pray for one another, so that
you will be healed.
James 5:16
A strong positive mental
attitude will create more miracles than any other
drug
- Patricia Neal.
You have to do
your own growing no matter how tall your grand father
was –
Abraham Lincoln
And, in the end, it’s not
the years in your life that count, it’s the life in our
years – Abraham
Lincoln
Courage does not always roar. Sometime it is a quiet
voice at the end of a day saying “I will try again
tomorrow.”
