     Frequently asked questions.

Why do I need therapy? How do I know I need one?
You need therapy if you feel anxious, depressed or emotionally lonely. If you have trouble in making decisions, and regret about the decisions you make, almost every time you make decisions. If you cannot have happy and fulfilling relationships at home or in the place of work. You need therapy if something constantly bothers you and you cannot stop thinking about it, and you are consumed by it.

How long do I need to take therapy?
The duration of the therapeutic process depends upon your needs. A brief and solution-oriented therapy is possible from 5 to 10 sessions. It is a process that helps you to be honest with yourself, so that you can sort out the different options available to you to solve the problems you face. Working with a therapist for a year or two is common in many cases.

How do I find the right therapist?
A Marriage & Family Therapist will be able to deal with the following  common issues people face.
Frequent fighting over dealing with children, parents, in-laws, money, infidelity, step parenting, chronic illness, care giving, separation or divorce, difficulty to make decisions, life style issues, different religion or social class, difference in value system, depression  and similar situations people face in relationships.
There is no way to find out whether a particular therapist is right for you. You will be able to decide in one or two sessions if the therapist cares for you, able to understand you and engage you in the therapeutic process.

What is the difference between psychotherapy and integrated psychotherapy and spirituality?
Psychotherapy helps you to gain control of your life by developing personal strengths, positive outlook  and communication skills. But psychotherapy cannot do much in the realm of human limitations while struggling to understand the meaning of life. Spirituality paints a bigger picture of life. It is something more significant, meaningful and worth pursuing. Using resources from both psychology and spirituality is a better way to deal with the problems you face. This will help you to accept the things that you cannot change and change the things you can change. You will be able to forgive, and deal with tense situations with humility. And you will feel that you need not carry a heavy load by yourself, you can relax and feel peaceful.

Do you apply spiritual component in your psychotherapy?
As a mental health professional and a theologically trained clergy, I find using resources from both disciplines not only more helpful, but lasting and comforting. I give the freedom to the clients to accept or reject the spiritual component.
